I was contacted by a G player in the States and a G player in Norway both using the first run, early “prerelease” version of the guitar electronics. The cards are labeled as version “A. You can also see jumper wires soldered across the board. The first time I tried to repair a failed op-amp in a G , I realized that the pin-out documentation was wrong on the schematic. The pin out information was correct on the G Service Manual Schematics schematic, which uses almost the same circuits. All the G s and G s that I have checked have op-amp pin outs consistent with the G These op-amps are the top three op-amps in line with the pin ribbon connector.
Gibson Serial Numbers
But, with more than 75 years of shipping records in the Gibson books, and dozens of variations on numerical schemes used over the years, serial numbers sometimes do little to shed light on the origin of a mysterious Gibson. With vintage Gibsons selling at auction for as much as half a million dollars, Davidson will sometimes roll up his sleeves and poke around in the ledgers, but only as time allows.
The earliest volumes contain hundreds of yellowed pages covered front and back with rows of handwritten numbers. It can take Davidson several hours to locate a specific serial number, if he can find it at all. Even then, there may be four other guitars—of all different models—with the same number sequence. Serial numbers can pull up multiple guitars from multiple years.

The body is made of highly flamed maple, absolutely gorgeous. And most of all, there is a detail we have never encountered on a Country Club: The sound post connects top and back, giving the guitar a greater rigidity, to avoid feedback problems when played really loud. No heavy dings, no heavy wear. The binding deterioration, so common on ’60 Gretsches, was becoming a real problem on the guitar’s body, since it just could not be stopped in any way. So, instead of keeping on touching it up by replacing the damaged pieces one at a time, we have chosen to ask our luthier Salvatore Mancuso to complety restore it.
The restoration job is just perfect, since Mancuso has used exactly the same material, dimentions and colour of the original binding. More rare details make of this guitar a true “collector’s item”: Rare and interesting indeed! All in all, an exceptional guitar, rare and beautiful, with the same sound and circuitry of period’s s, but with an unique look and personality, with a great natural blond finish and a fantastic flamed maple body.
Introduced inl as the budget model in the Chet Atkins line, the Tennessean mod.

Suddenly, electric guitars were 1 on every kids Christmas list. Companies that had been manufacturing Accordions for 20 years, retooled for electric guitars.

This resulted in the so-called lawsuit period. During this period, Ibanez produced guitars under the Mann name to avoid authorities in the United States and Canada. Return to the Main Index. Sometimes there just isn’t enough information on electric instruments and amps to allow them to be properely dated. And many people ask me to try and determine the year of their old amplifier, or to help them with the year of their older off-brand electric guitar. Since I primarily collect amps by Fender, and guitars by Gibson, Fender, Martin, National, Epiphone, Gretsch and Rickenbacker, I really can’t help them with these other less popular brands.
As you have probably noticed, there is plenty of information here to help date the brands that I am interested in. But where does that leave everyone else? Well I’m not one to leave you out in the informational cold, so here’s something that I use quite often in dating amplifiers and electric guitars. It’s called the “source-date code”, and it can help determine the approximate age of an electric instrument by the date its components were manufactured.
Source-Date Codes On American made vintage gear, the pots and speakers provide an excellent opportunity to date a piece of equipment by referencing their “source-date code”.

Well known users “With a balanced low-impedance output, you could use long cables without all the problems inherent in unbalanced high-impedance lines. Gibson was keen on having the low-impedance transformer close to the amp, so we made a special cable with a transformer on the other end, which you had to have in order to use it. But if you forgot your cable, you were out of luck—so we added the switch to go from low to high impedance.

This spirit varnish produces a eggshell crazing patina. Around is when Gibson started experimenting with Nitrocellulose laquer, and by all models were using lacquer. Fernandes Burny Here’s a quick way to tell if you have a Matsumoku factory guitar whether branded or not. That’s a dead giveaway that you’ve got one of “Uncle Matt’s” guitars. As I said above, Fujigen and the other manufacturers produced guitars with no logos at all for sale around the world. That in itself shouldn’t cause much confusion, because we know from Hoshino that “if it doesn’t say Ibanez” it’s not an Ibanez.
However, Fujigen Gakki, the manufacturer of Ibanez-branded guitars would provide stock, no-name images to Hoshino and other distributors for use in their catalogs. Fujigen only had to take one picture of a guitar instead of one with each different brand on it. I can’t confirm this, but Fujigen may have gone as far as to produce the majority of the catalog, and Hoshino would put its “Ibanez” brand on the front and back covers.
Some people have found online copies of these older catalogs a good source for these can be found at Vintage Ibanez Guitar Catalogs – through and point to the pictures without logos as evidence that “Ibanez” made unbranded guitars. As we can see now, that’s just not true. Some unbranded guitar pictures from a Ibanez catalog:
